How did Cindy Allison Herold, M.A., CCC-SLP become a SpeechEasy dispenser?

I went to Appalachian State University in Boone, NC to get my Master's Degree. I had to write a research paper on stuttering. During that research process I found Dr. Kalinowski at Eastern Carolina University, and his research became part of my education. After that project, he continued to keep me informed on the progress of their stuttering research including the SpeechEasy device through emails.

In one of his correspondence updates, he invited me to attend a training session for dispensers. I went to that training to satisfy my curiosity, and see what I had read about in our correspondence. I had no intent to become involved with the device because I was an SLP in the public schools, with no desire to leave that position.

At first I couldn't figure out why I would spend money on a flight, etc. especially when I couldn't use the device in my current job function. I continued to "feel" the urgency of attending that dispenser meeting.
Honestly…I felt the hand of God leading me there to that second training sessions for SLPs who would become dispensers of the device outside of North Carolina.

What I saw……….truly amazed me. This was something that I had to make available to people who stutter.

There are NO coincidences. While I was at that training session, I met a man named Cliff Goldman from Oregon. Cliff is an SLP, who wears the SpeechEasy device, and works in the public school system, which is what I do full-time. He explained how he does he job within the public schools, and works with the device when he is not in school. I realized that I could do the same thing to help the people in Florida get the device.

Now, I've seen over 60 people try the device. It is a miracle to about 80% of the people I've seen and for the others it doesn't work or not well enough to purchase the device.
Bottom line….you don't know until you try it.
